Happy September + Free Desktop Wallpaper

I look forward to September. It really is the most wonderful time of year (for me!) It's the beginning of pumpkin everything season, the weather will be cooler, the trees will be prettier, and wearing sweaters will finally not be frowned upon.

Fall Leaf - april bern photography

This September going to be exciting! Next week I start an online painting class. It’s from an artist I admire in a medium I have no idea how to work with (acrylic). I’m sooo looking forward to finally learning how to paint with acrylics. I’ve tried on my own, and I’m completely clueless and I hate what I’m doing. I’m a “I need extreme hand holding when learning a new thing” kind of person, and this workshop looks like it’s exactly what I need.

Another reason why September the best month: We’re going on a little mini vacation. I finally decided where— Santa Fe. Why Santa Fe? Well, it’s cheaper than Hawaii and prettier than anywhere in the Midwest. I wanted to go someplace meaningful and Taos and Abiquiú meet that requirement (hint, they were where my most favorite artist spent a lot of time and called home) I also wanted a vacation where I didn’t feel like I would need to “run, run, run and see all I can see in 4 days” like I usually spend my vacations.  I plan on sightseeing and photographing some beautiful landscapes, but I’d like to also stroll around the town, take in some art galleries, maybe visit the Georgia O’Keefe Museum and relax. I might even get crazy and pamper myself. It could happen.

Have you subscribed to my newsletter yet? I hope so because in honor of my most favorite month, I created a gorgeous screensaver and iphone/ipad wallpaper for you. Simply subscribe to my newsletter and you’ll get this gorgeous screensaver (and a few other goodies too!) You'll be the first to hear about any sales, shop updates, as well as free monthly screensavers and a ton more!

Yay September!  Bring on the pumpkins and comfortable sweater weather!

What are you looking forward to this month? Let me know in the comments section below! I’d love to share in your excitement!

Free June Printable + BONUS

You guys, can you believe it's already JUNE?! (Neither can I!)

I'm really excited to share my newest free printable. I LOVE it. I have this framed hanging up on my wall in my craft room. It reminds me that I CAN try something new--no matter how silly or "impractical" it seems. (I have trouble doing things/projects that I deem "impractical" or a "waste of time" so this speaks to me...)

You CAN Try Something New FREE Printable from April Bern Photography

While preparing this month's printable for you, I came across another inspirational photo that I had to share as well! I have this one printed out and tacked up in my cube at work. It's just above my monitor and I look at it all the time. It reminds me that my dreams ARE worth pursuing. No matter how small or insignificant, or silly (or impractical) they are.

Free May Printable

Hey ya'll (every time someone said "ya'll" when we were in Austin, I'd nudge G and excitedly whisper to him "they said "ya'll" ) Remember last week when I mentioned that I've been super inspired after returning from my little trip to Austin? I was SO motivated and inspired that I made a free printable and desktop/iPhone/iPad wallpaper and sent it to my besties. And by "besties" I mean all of you lovely individuals that signed up for my newsletter. I've got so many other fun gifts to send out-- I'm planning a desktop calendar template (who couldn't use that?) a printable card set, and a little photography guide (so far!) I've got more ideas in the works.

If you sign up for my newsletter (don't worry-- I won't sell your email info or anything awful like that!) I'll send you this gorgeous printable and wallpaper and then you'll be on my BFF list and always know when I have something new or cool going on. Wouldn't that be fun? Of course, it wouldn't be a BFF/bestie kind of relationship if you had no way to contact me. You can always email me, or find/follow/get in touch with me via your favorite social media channel.

I'd love to connect with you!! Let me know what you think of this printable, or if you have any suggestions. I'm all ears!

i need more weekends! (and another freebie!)

Thursday and Friday were fabulous! Thursday we went to the Garfield Park Conservatory again-- it was fabulous as always. This time we saw the outdoor garden area-- it still needs a little work!!!! I imagine it will be gorgeous when they are finished planting and landscaping! Friday we went to the Chicago Botanic Garden because they had their annual Antique fair. While that was very lovely to see and experience, I would not ever go again (and pay admission.) Really, that is for the serious hard-core antique hunter!!! Well, you live and learn, right? Friday nite was awesome too! I got to hang out with O again. Our friend from high school, B, hosted Tastefully Simple party at her house. O was the demonstrator (and i was her lovely assistant.) Much yummy food and good time was had by all!

I've got another freebie for ya! It's a mini paper pack that coordinates with the Floral Frame Freebie from earlier in the week.

Like it? Make sure you grab it here!
(more co-ordinating pieces to come later in the week!!!)

yay for spring and for freebies!!!

It's been a long time, hasn't it? I have been feeling rather "blah" and uninspired about designing digital kits/elements. Don't gt me wrong-- I still love surfing, gathering inspiration and creating, but I've been feeling the usual self-pity "no one likes my stuff" kind of garbage lately. Talking to Sandra nearly everyday and getting excited over her super awesome new digital kits has given me a kick in the pants to pick up the laptop and start creating again. I'm gonna take it slow and ease back into the game (and try not to stress myself out too much!!!)

I've created a little digital frame freebie I'd like to give ya'll to celebrate the long awaited arrival of spring, and my jump back into designing!
