My New Canvas Lamp Is Here! Unboxing + First Impressions

Today felt like Christmas morning — my Canvas Lamp finally arrived! I’ve been eyeing this setup for over two years, waiting for the right moment to finally upgrade my filming situation. I want to record more of my art, journaling, little DIYs, and everyday creative moments without wrestling with a tripod or stressing about lighting every time inspiration hits.

The box showed up on my doorstep this afternoon, and of course I dropped everything to open it. I snapped a few quick photos before diving in (because if there’s one thing I’ve learned… everything is content 😉).

The packaging is really nice — clean kraft boxes with subtle little illustrations all over them. It felt intentional, modern, and honestly exciting to open. Inside my main box were the lamp and the extra goodies I treated myself to:

  • The Canvas Creator Lamp

  • The weighted base

  • Collapsible Rotating Travel Phone Tripod

  • GripLock Magnetic Mount

  • Remote Trigger

Unboxing felt like unwrapping a little creative upgrade for my whole workspace!

I’ve been wanting something easy, stable, and quick for filming overhead shots of:

  • painting

  • sketching

  • journaling

  • small DIY projects

  • little lifestyle moments for Smallish Adventures

My tripods are great outdoors or for full-body stuff, but for tabletop work? They’re awkward. They show up in frame (see all the “draw with me” videos on my YouTube channel…), they get bumped, and they’re never at the right angle. Then there’s the lighting issue. I have a ring light that is bright and works well, but it’s just too much. It’s bulky, and the brightness isn’t adjustable

The Canvas Lamp seems like it solves all of that, plus it gives me adjustable, even lighting so my colors look true. Huge win.

First impressions: Just holding the pieces, everything feels solid and well-made, especially the weighted base. It’s heavy in that ‘this isn’t going anywhere’ kind of way, which is exactly what I need while I’m painting or filming. It’s such a relief not to rely on bags of rice to keep my tripod from tipping over like I did during my “draw with me” videos!

I haven’t put it together yet (that’s tomorrow’s project!), but I’m already excited. I have a feeling this is going to make creating videos so much easier and way more fun!

Tomorrow I want to set it up on my desk and test it with a quick painting or sketching sesh. I’ll photograph everything and add those images!

Stay tuned!
